This is especially important if the air pump is located lower than the aquarium, for example in the base cabinet.
The valve installed in the backflow preventer allows air to pass through in only one direction, thus preventing water from the aquarium from entering the pump. This prevents damage to the pump, cabinet and floor because the aquarium cannot run dry through the air hose. A backflow preventer is especially important when the pump is not running due to power failure, defect or even planned.
This backflow preventer fits standard 4/6 mm air hoses.
The shape of the backflow valve indicates the flow direction of the air, the bulge should point towards the aquarium. Small tip: If you are unsure how around the backflow preventer is installed in the hose, blow through it - this only works in one direction, and the side where the air comes out should then be installed in the direction of the aquarium.
