The extremely slow growing moss balls are dark green and offer a great contrast to all other plants in the aquarium with their color and velvety surface. They are formed because the short filamentous algae Aegagropila linnaei clump together in the surf. Moss balls were considered to be a species of the dreaded genus Cladophora some time ago, but this has been revised, they have nothing to do with these algae.
The fine short filaments that make up moss balls together form a truly huge surface on which biofilms can colonize. Filter bacteria find ideal conditions here and therefore contribute to good water quality. Shrimps always find something to eat on moss balls, and baby shrimps also find shelter and hiding places here.
Tiny suspended particles collect in the hairs of the moss ball, which the shrimp love to collect and eat. Every few weeks, rinse the moss ball under running water and gently squeeze it a bit to get rid of excess detritus.
Different sized moss balls in a small group in the middle ground or foreground work best, but our XXL moss ball is also a great eye-catcher as a "single" piece. Simply place it on the aquarium floor and turn it over from time to time so that it gets even light and stays nice and green everywhere.
Size of the ball: from 8 cm
Expert Tip: With the NatureHolic plant glue stick this plant gently and easily on stones, roots and decoration . Made in Germany, the adhesive does not pollute the water and has no negative impact on the stocking.
