GRNLO - caterpillar cave - 13.5 cm

The dark brown caterpillar cave, closed at the back, takes its name from its shape on the one hand and from the regular decorative edges on the other, which give it a bit of the appearance of a cute little segmented caterpillar.

It offers  shrimps and especially dwarf crayfish an ideal cave to hide in and at the same time a place to escape when stronger conspecifics drop by in the hiding place. Dwarf crayfish in particular need a hiding place because they also like to retreat in nature. Shrimps - especially egg-bearing female shrimps - also like a quiet place and gratefully accept the caterpillar cave. The cave, which is closed at the back, is also ideal for small catfish.
 

A little tip on the side: Caves are best placed in the aquarium so that you can look into the opening - so you have your aquarium inhabitants in view and they still have a nice hiding place.

The caterpillar cave does not stand out strongly in the aquarium thanks to the dark brown ceramic. It can be optimally planted with moss (tied on or attached with plant glue or superglue), which finds a good hold on the bulges. Perching plants such as Bucephalandra or Anubias are also an option for planting this terracotta hiding place.

The material of the caterpillar burrow is fired ceramic, which does not harden the water in the aquarium. The terracotta has a relatively rough surface with open pores, where biofilms with beneficial bacteria can settle very well. These bacteria provide uncontaminated clean water in the aquarium. Shrimps like to graze on biofilms and thus provide themselves with natural food, as do the common aquarium snails or catfish that rasp up growth.
